Best of Belgium Mixed 12 Pack

The brewing traditions of Belgium are without doubt the most idiosyncratic in the world. Many of these traditions are ancient and it is a point of national pride that the Belgians have kept them alive to this day. Yeast is perhaps the most defining aspect of Belgian beer, often imparting uniquely spicy, fruity and complex flavours. They are also traditionally bottle conditioned, meaning the beers are alive and ever changing in flavour. Many have an evolution of flavour that can span years, but some can even span decades. This fifthteenth edition of our Best of Belgium pack contains some of the most famous Belgian breweries that have all influenced thousands of brewers around the world.

Here's the line-up:

1. Chimay Blue 330ml Bottle

The Chimay Blue Cap, baptized "Grande Reserve" in 750 ml bottles is a dark Trappist beer with a powerful aroma, the complex flavor of which improves across the years. It was first brewed as a Christmas beer by the monks of Scourmont Abbey in 1956. This authentic Belgian beer, whose tinge of fresh yeast is associated with a light rosy flowery touch, is particularly pleasant. Its aroma, perceived as one enjoys it, only accents the delightful sensations revealed by the odor, all revealing a light but agreeable caramelized note. It is ideally served at cellar temperature (10 to 12°C). ABV 9%

2. Gulden Draak Classic 330ml Bottle

The authentic, dark red tripel. Such an impressive symbol that has been around for more than 6 centuries requires an equally impressive beer. Like the dragon at the top of the city, Gulden Draak has been one of the world's best beers for years. It is a dark tripel, which in itself makes it an exceptional beer, but the complex taste with notes of caramel, roasted malt and coffee makes it unique. For the secondary fermentation use is made of a wine yeast that determines the unparalleled taste and that ensures the long-term taste evolution (= living beer). The older the beer gets, the more aroma it gets and the fuller the taste and color become. ABV 10.5%

3. Leffe Brune 330ml Bottle

Leffe Brown’s soft, deep brown colour and the perfect balance between a discreetly bitter yet slightly caramelised taste can be ascribed to age-old traditions. Hints of coffee and chocolate provide this beer with an even more desirable flavour. Served in a Leffe chalice, the smooth, creamy beer head, the roasted aromas and the spiced flavour have the ability to suspend time. ABV 6.5%

4. Delirium Tremens 330ml Bottle

The allusion to pink elephants and the choice of names is not due to chance. With a particular character, the unique taste results from triple fermentation and the use of three different yeast strains. Sweet, biscuit malt backbone, supported by pleasant warmth and spice, finishes well rounded, floral, and dry. A good shot of alcohol ignites in the mouth, as it were, which really warms the tongue and palate. The taste is also characterized by its roundness. The finish is strong, long and dry bitter. ABV 8.5%

5. Baptist Blond 330ml Bottle

Baptist blond is a clear top-fermented beer, slightly refreshing with a full flavor. ABV 5%

6. Pauwel Kwak 330ml Bottle

In Napoleon's time Pauwel Kwak was a brewer and the owner of the 'De Hoorn' inn in Dendermonde. Mail coaches stopped there every day. But at that time coachmen were not allowed to leave their coach and horses in order to have their thirst quenched along with their passengers. As a result, the inventive innkeeper had a special Kwak glass blown that could be hung on the coach. In this way the coachman had his Kwak beer safely at hand. Discover a very mellow, fruity attack, a nougat-like solidity, and a slightly spicy character with hints of liquorice passing into a warm finish that reminds you of caramelised banana. The bitterness always remains in the background but in the end emerges delicately. ABV 8.4%

7. Affligem Tripel 330ml Bottle

The king of the abbey beers. Brewed since 1074 by the Formula Antiqua Renovate. It is amber-gold and pours with a deep head and original aroma, delivering a complex, full bodied flavour. Secondary fermentation in the bottle. ABV 9%

8. Rochefort 8 330ml Bottle

Originally called "Spécial," Rochefort 8 dates to the mid-1950s. The name comes from the original gravity in "Belgian degrees." Deep brown color; the flavor is vigorous and complex, with firm body to support the strength. The aroma has elusive notes of fresh fruit, spice, leather, and figs. ABV 9.2%

9. Duchesse De Bourgogne 330ml Bottle

Duchesse de Bourgogne from Brouwerij Verhaeghe is the traditional Flemish red ale. This refreshing ale is matured in oak casks; smooth with a rich texture and interplay of passion fruit, and chocolate, and a long, dry and acidic finish. After the first and secondary fermentation, the beer goes for maturation into the oak barrels for 18 months. The final product is a blend of younger 8 months old beer with 18 months old beer. The average age of the Duchesse de Bourgogne before being bottled is 12 months. ABV 6.2%

10. Duvel Tripel Hop Citra 330ml Bottle

Discover Citra, voted by our fans as the best hop variety for our special Duvel Tripel Hop. Citra enriches the already unique taste of Duvel with fresh notes of grapefruit and tropical fruit. ABV 9.5%

11. Augustijn Blonde 330ml Bottle

Brouwerij Van Steenberge took over production of the beers of the Augustinian monks in 1978.  And this blond ale has been a mainstay of the label since that time. It pours a straw colour body, with a thick active foaming head. The aroma is fruity, with strong Belgian yeast characters. Sweet tropical fruit, bready yeast and a malty backbone make for a nice flavour combination.  The mouthfeel is full but smooth.  Gentle spicing comes in late as the beer dries out, with a lingering bitterness. ABV 7%

12. McChouffe 330ml Bottle

Among the mythical characters living in Fairyland, some are more unusual than others. Malcolm, for example, is different because of his accent and his kilt: when it comes to beer, his favourite is Mc CHOUFFE. The delicious flavours of aniseed, liquorice and toffee tickle his taste buds. If you listen to him, he will boast of its ruby sparkle, its smooth bitterness and its strong character, worthy of his native Scotland. ABV 8%
